Proceedings of Advanced Technologies, Applications and Market Strategies for 3G (ATAMS 2001). Cracow, Poland: 17-20 June, 2001.This paper presents the current stage of an IP-based architecture for heterogeneous environments, covering UMTS-like W-CDMA wireless access technology, wireless and wired LANs, that is being developed under the aegis of the IST Moby Dick project. This architecture treats all transmission capabilities as basic physical and data-link layers, and attempts to replace all higher-level tasks by IP-based strategies. The proposed architecture incorporates aspects of mobile-IPv6, fast handover, AAA-control, and Quality of Service. The architecture allows for an optimised control on the radio link layer resources. The Moby dick architecture is currently under refinement for implementation on field trials. The services planned for trials are data transfer and voice-over-IP.Publicad

The ad-hoc and infrastructure QoS network architecture that allows for required quality transport services provisioning is presented in this study. The services differentiation for four traffic classes is achieved through the extended SWAN protocol and layer 3 differentiation. The measurements indispensable for effective services differentiation in WLAN networks are described. The measurement examples from MAC layer measurement module that confirm the services differentiation correctness are presented. The methods for supporting QoS in fixed networks between terminals are also described

Mobility with QoS in broadcast unidirectional technologies: Experimental validation

Although mass entertainment markets, such as entertainment TV, were previously on the control of broadcast operators, the increased interest in supporting these multimedia services "anywhere and anyhow" is driving the interest of wireless operators. Therefore, the integration of broadcast technologies in the next generation networks is now a reality. However, since broadcast technologies are unidirectional, their use in mobile interactive communications requires the support of other technologies to enable the upstream communication through a return channel. This paper presents an experimental setup of the architecture developed in the framework of the IST-Daidalos project that is able to provide multimedia and interactive services through a heterogeneous network integrating DVB technology, and enabling seamless and media independent handovers with QoS support. The experimental testbed contains DVB, UMTS, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi with WiMAX as backhaul technology, and supports se amless handovers with QoS between these technologies, integrating also handover of different return channels. The results show that the handover impact is more noticeable in handovers to DVB and UMTS technologies, when compared to Wi-Fi and WiMAX ones. Nevertheless, when the network is not overloaded, the handover timings do not exceed 200 msec. ©2010 IEEE

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczŕcych moýliwoúci wykorzystania odpadów drzewnych powstajŕcych podczas produkcji půyt wiórowych do napeůniania polipropylenu. Wytworzono kompozyty zawierajŕce 40% frakcji drzewnej i 5% kompatybilizatora. Okreúlono dla nich wybrane wůaúciwoúci mechaniczne. Wykazano, ýe odpady z produkcji půyt wiórowych mogŕ byă z powodzeniem wykorzystywane do napeůniania polipropylenu. Sůowa kluczowe: nasiŕkliwoúă, odpady, polimer, produkcja půyt wiórowych, recykling, wůaúciwoúci mechaniczne, WPCResearch dealing with the use of wood-waste from particleboard manufacturing in fabrication of wood-polypropylene composites by means of injection molding are presented in the paper. The composites containing 40% of wood fraction and 5% of compatibilizer were produced. Mechanical properties and water absorption of these composites were determined. It was found out that particleboard after-processing waste could be successfully used for filling of polymer materials

The Risks of WiFi Flexibility: Enabling and Detecting Cheating

    No full text
Flexibility is an important paradigm for future WiFi networks. However, it also opens the possibility for diverse methods of cheating, which users can perform to increase their throughput. Therefore, it is important to develop the necessary tools to mitigate such efforts. In this paper we first discuss the risks of flexibility in terms of misbehaviour. We then propose an architecture to detect misbehaviour and react by punishing the cheaters. The proposed architecture utilizes advanced passive monitoring, flexible WiFi software, and appropriate reasoning to detect cheating. We validate its performance and discuss means of punishmen

This paper proposes a complete QoS architecture for integration of ad-hoc networks with infrastructure networks. The technology, service differentiation mechanisms, and signalling protocols are discussed. The modules required in the network elements and its integration to provide end-to-end QoS in mobile ad-hoc networks are also presented. The proposed solution is based on the SWAN model with several extensions to provide L2 traffic differentiation for four classes and supports integration with infrastructure networks. The deployed hierarchical architecture guarantees scalability and allows per-flow resource management in wireless access where scarce radio resources should be managed effectively

The increase will of ubiquitous access of the users to the requested services points towards the integration of heterogeneous networks. In this sense, a user shall be able to access its services through different access technologies, such as WLAN, Wimax, UMTS and DVB technologies, from the same or different network operators, and to seamless move between different networks with active communications. In this paper we propose an end-to-end QoS architecture able to support this users' ubiquitous access and seamless movement. This architecture is able to support QoS on unicast and multicast services, as well as in unicast and broadcast unidirectional networks, in multihomed environments. The integration of measurements for aid in admission control, inter-domain QoS approach, and integration with mobility is also presented
